Teasing Tuesday…Win a copy of NO MERCY!

November 30, 2010

Just in case you didn’t know…I also write medium boiled mysteries featuring unapologetically kick ass female characters, under the name Lori Armstrong, and today is the official release day of the paperback version of the first book in my Mercy Gunderson series, NO MERCY!

Here’s the killer cover with the jacket copy below:

Mercy Gunderson is a straight shooter with a hard edge. On medical leave from the Army, she returns home to South Dakota, which isn’t much safer for her than Iraq. Arriving just after the death of her father, it is up to Mercy to decide what to do with the family ranch. Trying to deal with her irresponsible sister and nephew and feeling guilty that she didn’t make it home soon enough to see her father one last time; Mercy is suddenly pulled into the local community when the body of a Native American boy is found on her land. But nobody seems to be doing anything about it, especially not the local law enforcement.

When tragedy strikes again, Mercy is ready to throw all her energy into her own investigation, and she’s out for revenge. As she digs up the truth behind the shocking crimes, Mercy uncovers dark and dangerous secrets and must race to stop a killer before everything she’s fought for is destroyed forever.

And the coolest part? For those of you anxiously awaiting the 1-11-11 release date of the second book in this series, MERCY KILL, there’s an excerpt in the back of this book!

So I’m giving away some signed copies of this book! The instructions are simple: Leave a comment about whether you follow authors across genre lines, or if you prefer to read within one genre. The more comments I get, the more copies I’ll be inclined to pass out, so share this contest with everyone you know!

You have asked this question before in a blog, however the same holds true, yes I will follow an author across genre’s if I’m in the mood to read that genre, as of right now I’m on a romance/erotica kick, but as soon as I feel a mystery is needed I will be choosing one of your Lori Armstrong books.

    Happy Release Day!

I generally go through cycles…For a couple months all I will want to read is romance, then I will read cowboy books, BDSM, menage, etc….

I havent read any Lori Armstrong books. In fact it has been awhile since I have read a mystery I usually stick to Dan Brown, Greg Iles, etc. No Mercy sounds like it would be good..Might have to check it out.

I definitely follow an author through and through. If I like the author I will read anything they put out there. From there I decide whether I like the other genres that particular author writes. I have not read any Lori Armstrong books only Lorelei James but I love all them so I am excited to give Lori Armstrong a try.

That being said, because you are truly one of my favorite authors I think I might start with this series and give it a go. It sound interesting and it’s set in South Dakota on a ranch, it’s hard to resist. Congrats on your newest release!

Yes, I follow authors across genres. I red everything from erotica to non-fiction history so I go w/ authors I enjoy. My first “loves” as a reader were mysteries and historicals……I find myself reading more UF, mysteries and historicals lately w/ the odd contemporary if one of the authors I follow comes out w/ something. I add @ least 2 authors a yr. while some may drop off if I feel their heart isn’t in it anymore and I always give them 3-4 books to get back w/ it….But I’m in if for the long haul w/ an author if they stay true.

When I find an author I really enjoy, I follow that author regardless of genre. I have found that my favorite authors are able to draw me in no matter what the subject matter is. I also like multi-genre authors because it changes things up – sometimes I’m not in the mood for a sappy love story and then sometimes that’s exactly what I want. As far as LJ/LA books, while I LOVE the McKay boys, this is PMS week so I think I’ll start No Mercy today 🙂 Thanks for always dragging me in!

I definitely follow authors accross genre lines. If I find an author I enjoy – whether it be because they’re writing just speaks to me, they have a great sense of humor, whatever it is.. I know that base style will come through no matter what genre they write in. A few examples of this – Katie MacAlister, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lynsay Sands, and YOU.

I find that following a writer across genre lines not only increases my own appreciation for the writer but it also opens doors to other writers that I might not have found had I stayed in one genre. For example, I use to only read thrillers and suspense novels, that’s how I found Lori Armstrong; which in turn lead me to Lorelei James and the Rough Riders Series….which I’ve read over and over:-)

I usually will follow an author across genres because I love their style of writing. The context may be different but it is still the same person writing it. The hard part is sometimes I go back to when an author first started writing and they have grown so much that I actually don’t like some of those first books but I still love that author. Thanks for the contest Lorelei. 🙂

I do follow authors across genres, because it’s generally the quality of writing that gets me hooked in the first place. Same goes for sub-genres, like when authors switch between contemporary and historical romance. Some authors definitely do it better than others. But, (and here we have some shameless sucking up) having started with Lorelei James, was very happy to discover Lori Armstrong’s Julie Collins and Mercy Gunderson books. I’m awed by your creativity and versatility in both genres.

Following authors into different genres is what lead me to discover more material to read and that is a bonus. There have been times when I couldn’t get into a certain subject matter/genre, but that didn’t keep me from reading other work by that author.

I tend to stick to one genre, but for the right author, I will happily cross lines. Like many have said, when I find a writing style that I like, I keep tabs on them and read everything I can…but I’m not likely to just jump into an unknown author in a genre I’m not used to reading.

I really don’t have a specific genre and read kinda all over (except for true life stories, kinda avoid them as they rarely have a happy ending and I’m reading to entertain myself, ya know?). However, I admit that I am often a little apprehensive if I see an author that has previously written exclusively historical romance, and then suddenly puts out a book that is pure sci-fi. I’ll generally still read it, at least check it out, but I won’t totally trust this new direction until I’ve really gotten into the book. Now, if they have had tendencies in that direction in the past, no problem, but a book in a totally different genre completely out of the blue… It might take me a bit to get my courage up on it.
On the other hand, looking at the blurb, this book seems right up your alley even if it isn’t a western. The characters seem to be your kind of charcters and I expect that I would like it just as much as your other works.

However, I never knowingly read anything that does not have a happy ending. There is too much depression and drama in the real world. I read to escape.

I might find that I prefer one genre better than the other, but I will still try it. I find that with most authors, if they are good writes then it doesn’t matter what type of story they write. There are lots of authors that I read ,that write in all different genres. When I found out that you wrote under the name of Lori Armstrong as well as Lorelei James, I checked out those books too. I love the characters that you create and can’t wait for Mercy Kill to come out. I was wondering if there was going to be any more Julie books. I love that series and hope to read more in the future.
