Ode to…Texas Wildflowers

March 24, 2011

I spent a year living in Texas during my childhood and I’ve never quite gotten over the stunning array and beauty of spring Texas wildflowers — the bluebonnets, the Indian paintbrushes, the pink buttercups and some yellow…ones I’ve never known the names of. For years I tried to explain to my family just how breathtaking it is.

So cue our trip to Texas last week. Some bluebonnets were blooming, lining the roadway between Houston and Galveston. Some Indian paintbrushes too. These pictures were posted by my James Gang member Dawn, and I just had to share them here, because the sheer beauty of these flowers still takes my breath away.

L, I wish your visit would’ve been closer to the 2nd weekend in April, there is a little town outside of Houston that has a Bluebonnet Festival. By that time the wildflowers have exploded all over this part of Texas. Your family would’ve enjoyed it. We are going this year, it’s the first time I will be able to take my daughter and get pictures of her in the bluebonnets. AND it’s close to the Blue Bell ice cream factory

Bluebonnets are my favorite weed/flower of all. I am so jealous. I’m in central Texas and we haven’t gotten enough rain yet for anything other that dandelions.

Those photos are stunning! And for those of us who are digging our way out of what is hopefully the last big snowfall of the year, they are a heartlifting reminder that spring will eventually come.

Thank you – those of us in the Chicago area this morning woke up to snow.
I went out this morning and a robin in the front yard, had his tail feathers dusted with snow. The pictures make be beleive there is Spring.
