Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2020

Okay, truth time here…I am not a Halloween person. Lots of people get super excited and decorate and I’ve always been meh…even when our girls were little. These people went a little overboard, doncha think?

I was also meh about carving pumpkins, but we did it every year (mostly so I could get the pumpkin seeds because I rock at making those)

So I searched for the most creatively carved pumpkins to share today…my Halloween carvings were usually two triangles for eyes and a big curved smile. Every year. Hey, it worked.

This is one you might find at a McKay household ๐Ÿ™‚

Simple. I could do this one.

These next couple…above my paygrade ๐Ÿ™‚

If I could paint like this I sure as hell wouldn’t waste it on a pumpkin!

Super cute ideas

The first year Mr. James and I were married, we carved pumpkins with my parents and Mr. James scraped away the outside of the pumpkin and turned his into a scary-ass skull that was so amazing none of us could believe it. When the candle was inside it glowed and was so cool. I can’t find any pictures but it was similar to this style ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

As far as costumes, Mr. James ROCKS at them, and I’m the one who said…how about if we just pick something at Target? Daddy created everything from a kangaroo, bat, and a butterfly to a carrot, a mummy, various witches, a lounge lizard singer and Mahatma Ghandi. And all of our girls are so good at making costumes too — they get that from their dad.

I love seeing what people come up with for their kiddos, but I PROMISE you if you send your kid to my door looking like this? I will slam said door in their face and run away screaming ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜€

So cute, right?

IF this is just glow sticks, I could’ve pulled this one off…maybe

This is the amazing octopus costume that my daughter came up with for me little grandbaby last year…I’m still blown away by it!

So I hope you all have a great night, doing what you love, whether that’s watching movies, taking little trick or treaters around, or eating the candy leftovers because there were no kiddos coming around this year?

We do a pumpkin some years, but it’s nothing major for us. I’m not doing candy or bags (which are recommended to do) this year since our part of the neighborhood we don’t get many kids anyway.
Costumes for the kid have varied between buying a costume from the store or getting creative. One year I used a pillow case and she was a bag of “Sugar and Spice and everything nice”. A few years ago she was Ruby Gloom. A witch for a couple of years. This year she will be a dark unicorn.

I have never been fond of Halloween either. I tried when my three kids were young but I just couldnโ€™t. My husband does the decorations now and we hand out candy from the front yard. It has been such a crazy year so we put our candy in baggies and will wear gloves and masks and hand them out. I do have to say that if that scary clown kid comes to my house they can take the candy and Iโ€™m done!!

We actually had 29 kiddoes this year! Not very many were wearing masks, but I did. And I hooked up my pumpkin basket on the end of the skewer from my BBQ Rotisserie (with the claws on to keep the basket from sliding off), to use for handing out the goodies. With my Tyrannosaurus Rex (short) arms, it was almost 6 feet!

I pre-packaged little baggies with Tootsie Roll candies and lollypops, some Sour type candies, and several kinds of chocolates. I gave each kid one of these bags and a bag of chips.

The parents really seemed to appreciate my effort with the basket.

For the pumpkin, I have a design that I’ve been carving for the last 20-ish years. When lit, it almost looks like the Nicholas Cage character from Ghost Rider. It’s pretty cool! Too bad I can’t post pics here. I think you would all appreciate it!

I like the pumpkin decor cause I have no talent to design but how can a guy crawl in a pumpkin and get his picture taken and put out to the public. If he works with other guys I could see a lot of jokes and being made fun of.
