I’m Officially Jumping Into The Blogsphere

May 7, 2007

Hello world!!

I’ve been so busy with back-to-back deadlines that I haven’t taken the blog plunge, so to speak, and I figured it was time. That said, I do blog once a week at my other group blog site. It’s nice to be in a group situation because I don’t feel the pressure to be witty, informative and entertaining every day. So, I probably won’t post every day. Because heaven knows, I’m still a newbie in this crazy business. I seem to have more questions than answers.

I’m still recovering from the Romantic Times conference in Houston. I got to meet the head of the Samhain Publishing Company, the wonderfully sweet and sharp, Crissy Brashear, and my fabu editor, Angela James, and a bunch of Samhain authors. Wednesday we stuffed 500 promo bags filled with all sorts of goodies for conference attendees. Then on Sunday was the Samhain Send-off, which was well attended and a lot of fun. Throughout the week whenever Samhain was mentioned, everyone had good things to say about the quality of work the publishing house is putting out. I’m thrilled to be part of such an innovative company and in the company of authors I admire.

In celebration of my erotic contempory western, LONG HARD RIDE, being released yesterday, I thought I’d kick off my blog launch with a contest. Ooh, prizes!

1) a signed copy of BEGINNINGS Anthology with my contemporary erotic comedy BABE IN THE WOODS

2) a buffalo skin keychain ring

Ah-ah-ah. Not so fast. You do have to answer a question and post it here, so I don’t feel all alone and unloved in cyberspace.

Question: Have you ever been to a rodeo? If no, why not? If yes, what’s your favorite event?

Let’s get the bull kickin’, ya’ll!

I bought & read Long, Hard Ride today – LOVED it. The sex was hot, but what made it work was the storyline and Colby’s & Channing’s relationship. Without their connection, it wouldn’t have been as effective. Gotta tell ya, I adore Samhain. And the guy stuff – it totally works for me LOL. How does hubby feel about these scenes you write?

Never been to a rodeo. I guess because I don’t want to watch anyone get hurt. But I love cowboys 😉

I sent an email, because at first I couldn’t comment here—anyway it is working now.

1st–Oh My Gosh!! I LOVED Long Hard Ride!! I stayed up half the night reading it–I could not lay it down. GREAT BOOK!!! You definately have a new fan.

2nd-I have been to several rodeo’s-Personally, I prefer the PBR–there is just something about bullriders–Troy Dunn was my favorite before he retired. Still love to watch PBR on TV.

COLBY was hottttttt. Thanks for a great read.

I have been to a small town rodeo and I loved the bull riding.

Stacy~ aw, I’m so glad you loved it 🙂 The reason I write romance is for the relationship between characters. If there’s no real story there I feel cheated as a writer (knowing I should work harder to make the story more important than the sex) and as a reader, wishing for more. Since Long Hard Ride initially was a step outside my normal comfort zone. I’d never written m/m or menage but in terms of the story arc it made sense and I *do* think it worked. As far as my husband. Hmm. He hasn’t read it yet. I don’t know if he will, which doesn’t bother me because I’m aware m/m is not everyone’s cup of tea 🙂

    Get thee to a rodeo!

Ooh, Renee, I am a DIE HARD PBR fan. I DVR both nights on Versus (don’t tell me what happened this weekend, I haven’t watched yet!) Justin McBride is my boy. I love all those young up and comers too, like Brian Canter. We’ve been to the PBR in Billings and we’re going to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo this summer too. I am such a fangirl…

Tee hee – not going to apologize for keeping you up! I love to hear my writing has picked up a new fan 🙂

We attend as many small town rodeos as we can, Crystal. And living in western South Dakota, there are a ton! I seem to miss Days Of 76 in Deadwood nearly every year so I’m making a point of going this summer.

  7. Little Lamb Lost said:

Nope. Never been to a rodeo. Never had an opportunity to attend one. Would like to go someday, just for the experience.

  8. Lisa W said:

Nope, I never been to a rodeo. I don’t like the smell…I have a very sensitive sense of smell, lol.

  9. Shuck Ying said:

No, I haven’t attended a rodeo before but would like to went I have the time and money.

  10. Deborah said:

I have never been to a rodeo. Are there any good looking cowboys there so that I will make an effort to see one.

  11. Chris Roberts said:

Never been able to go to a rodeo but I like the barrel racing when I see one on tv.

  12. Mel said:

I have been to a few rodeos, although we have yet to make it to the big San Antonio one. Favorite event…DANCING, lol. I do like the bullriding though.

  13. Paula said:

Nope, never been to a rodeo. There’s the Atlactic between me and the real rodeos. Is that a good excuse? LOL

(Well, maybe they organize rodeos somewhere in Europe, but I’ve never heard of it yet. Hmm.)

  14. Lorelei James said:

This is so interesting! I can’t believe you all haven’t been to a rodeo. Yes, there are hot cowboys. Yes, it sort of smells. The ticket prices usually aren’t anywhere near concerts, etc. – unless you are going to a Professional Bull Riders event.

I don’t think they rodeo much in Europe, so Paula you’re excused 🙂

Melissa, I’m jealous about the SA rodeo. Make that hubby of yours put on his Stetson and take you two-steppin’, darlin’, since you live in Texas I know you know how!

  15. Joye said:

I’ve been to several rodeos and really enjoyed the Pikes Peak or Bust rodeo in Colorado and the Phoenix Championship rodeo. I live not too far from the oldest, continuously held rodeo in the nation held every 4h of July in Prescott, AZ That’s the best! I especially enjoy the bull riding and the excitement and colorfulness of the arena and all of the clowns. But most of all, I love those cowboys in tight jeans and worn boots.

  16. Jennybrat said:

I’ve never been to one. There isn’t any near where I live.

  17. Tessa Bamberg said:

I’ve never been to a rodeo, but would love to. I assume it would be very exciting. I hope some day I’ll be able to travel somewhere where there are such events.

  18. Shelly said:

Hi Lorelei. I just finished reading The Beginnings anthology this weekend. This was the first time reading one of your stories and I truely enjoyed it. No, I have never been to a rodeo but would like to go sometime. I think it would be exciting.

  19. Lorelei said:

Shelly – happy to hear you liked Babe in the Woods. Before it had a title I referred to it as my “rattlesnake” story.

So, Shelly, Jenny, Tessa, Chris, Deborah, Shuck, Lisa and Little Lamb…where do you all live that you don’t have access to the most popular sport in the country? Or is it less of a location thing?

Joye – someday I’ll get to Prescott for the oldest rodeo.

  20. Maureen said:

I’ve never been to a rodeo but I have seen them on television. They look interesting but there has not been a rodeo around my area that I know of.

  21. Mina said:

    Hi Lorelie,
I’ve never been to a rodeo, I’ve seen them on TV though. I love the bronc busting.

  22. Amy S. said:

No, I have never been to a rodeo. I would love to go to one and see some yummy cowboys though. lol. I have watched some rodeos on tv though.

*hangs head in shame* I have never been to a rodeo. My only excuse is I live in CT and the rodeo isn’t a regular thing here. BUT If I ever get my tukkus out to visit you, you darn well better take me to the rodeo! I’m all about tight cowboy butts!!!!

I haven’t been able to find Versus on my cable box, but I have looked for it ever since I read LONG HARD RIDE.

    Welcome to the blog world!

    Hi Lorelei,
My favorite part of a rodeo besides all the cowboy’s is the bull riding. I’m in awe at how they can ride such a big bull and stay on most of the time. 🙂

  25. Lorelei said:

Ari – I forgive you…but I will drag your butt to a rodeo – WHEN not IF you visit me 🙂

So is this why cowboys are so popular? Because you all haven’t been to a rodeo?

I admit Mina and Sheila – bull riding is my fave too. However, the PRCA saddle bronc WORLD champion is from South Dakota, so I like saddle bronc too. In fact 5 of the top 10 saddle bronc riders are from our densely populated state, a point of pride for us for sure!

I have been to many rodeos-indoors and outdoors. My favorite event is the steer wrestling.

  27. Erin the Innocent said:

Hell yes I’ve been to a rodeo! I used to live just a couple of blocks from the Stampede grounds for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth (Calgary Stampede) so it was immerse myself in all things Stampede in order to survive for those 10 days in July LOL. I still love the Stampede even though I’m no longer living right there.

I also grew up in a rural community. There are a few different rodeos each summer right close by so I often went to them growing up.

  28. Cynthya said:

No, I’ve never been to a rodeo but I’ve watched them on TV. I think NASCAR and the Indy 500 take the place of rodeos around here. There’s something intriguing about the kind of man that wants to do something so dangerous (either race car driving or bull riding.) Cowboys are much sexier. LOL

  29. Lorelei James said:

Erin the innocent~ I’m jealous. My new pal Vivi Anna lives in Calgary and its long been a dream to attend the Stampede.

Robyn~ my husband got a taste of steer wrestling this weekend. He helped brand, vaccinate, horn and castrate 750 calves. Yep, I thought it was totally sexy when he came home beat up and smelling like a real cowboy. When he put his hat on I nearly swooned 🙂

And I agree, Cynthia, there is just something about a man who throws caution to the wind. Cowboys have sexier “work” clothes than racecar drivers.

Yes I went to a rodeo when I was in college. I came home for the weekend. My
parents and I went to the rodeo held by the local Boys C;ub. It was great. They
had roping, bull riding, and a clown that had a horse that did tricks.

  32. Lorelei said:

Jodi – it won’t be out in paperback until…I think Feb ’08 🙁 But My Bookstore and More has it as a download until then.

I love the entertainment during rodeos. Especially the bullfighters. And if you ever get a chance to see Flint Rasmusson…he is hilarious! Mostly he does gigs for the PBR

  33. Sasha White said:

    Welcome to the blog world!!

I’ve been to rodeos. Hard to be born in Calgary and not. However, I think I need to go to one in the US. To compare, y’know? 😉

  34. Jackie Wisherd said:

Yes, I’ve been to lots of rodeos since I’ve always lived in the West. I’m amazed at how many readers haven’t been. My favorite event is the Bronc Riding because I love horses. I am a painter and love to see the movements of the horses and try to put them into my paintings. And the cowboys arn’t too bad either.

  35. Vivi Anna said:

Hey sugarlips! Save a horse and ride a cowboy! That’s my moto!

  36. Lorelei said:

VIVI!!! So glad you’re here, darlin’ 🙂 Coincidence we have the same motto?

Sasha – come to the US. I’ll take you rodeoin’

Ironic that you’re a painter, Jackie, in my next cowboy book the McKay brother in question is also an artist. I admire anyone who can take the animals movement and translate that onto paper.

  37. Lisa Avila said:

I love rodeos. When the NAtional Finals was held in Oklahoma, I went every year and to the rodeo at the fair grounds every year. Love those cowboys. My favorite event is the bull riding.

  38. Lisa said:

Just finished Long Hard Ride. It was great. Loved the whole book. Hope to find the ending to Trevor and Edgard’s story. Got a chance to go to a local rodeo when visiting Wyoming a few years back. I hope to go again, I love cowboys, keep the stories coming.

  39. Beth Reimer said:

No I have never been to a rodeo but they seem like it would be a good time
