Saturday Six

February 22, 2020

Happy Weekend!

As part of my new website, I’m getting back to blogging twice a week. And the only place you’ll find these posts is here! So on Saturdays I’ll share a mishmash, a soupcon, a smattering….a surprise. This week is a list of 6 things about me.

On social medial people have been posting the 6 TV shows that define them. I was torn…do I list the shows that defined me as a kid? Or the ones I became addicted to as an adult? Since no one cares about little Lorelei’s choices…here are my picks:

Saturday 6!

Star Trek — I’m a next Gen girl, but I’ve watched all of the spin-offs, including the terrific Star Trek Discovery which is quickly becoming my favorite. So far I’m loving Picard 💖

Buffy the Vampire Slayer — I adored how this show started out as a high school drama but became so much more. I was ALWAYS team Angel 👊

The X-Files — Such great chemistry between Mulder and Scully, plus fantastic story lines ranging from scary to funny to thought-provoking. 👽

Alias — Strong, kick ass female character, amazing story telling, this began my love affair with all things JJ Abrams.⭐

Lost — It was ground-breaking…loved me a love triangle between Jack, Sawyer and Kate. Great action and twists…up until the last episode😝

Barney — my daughters were obsessed with Barney and I spent many hours watching the big purple dinosaur. Honorable mention: Blue’s Clues 👀

Feel free to jump in and list your 6 shows!

I am right there with you on Buffy, and Angel, and Barney. I still remember scouring the stores for a plush Baby Bop for my daughters birthday!

Gee if I have to go back to when I was a kid… It would be The Monkey’s, I mean it had Davy Jones and Here Comes the Brides heartthrob gave us Bobby Sherman and we can’t forget The Partridge Family when we all swooned over David Cassidy.
And into my adulthood we had The Hoff with Baywatch and Nightrider… And I can’t forget St. Elsewhere that gave us Mark Harmon… who we get to watch on NCIS… and saving the best to last Blue Bloods, do I need to say more.. Tom Selleck. Ok so I gave you 8…
    Happy Saturday.

Good choices. What’s funny is that I don’t watch a lot of TV these days. When I did watch it I loved my sitcoms. I would watch Friends and Seinfeld. I loved The Sopranos and 6 Feet Under. Now I find myself drawn to HGTV shows. I loved Fixer Upper and now Home Town. I guess I have my phases.

I’m a channel flipper but when I stop it’s usually on: Gilmore Girls, The Office, Roseanne, Diner Drive-In & Dives, The First 48 (really any true life crime) and game shows (Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and Supermarket Sweep)

Not much of a TV watcher, but my Sat. 6 would have to be…
    Absolutely Fabulous – Brit Com… Eddie & Pats… drinking… loved it!
    Castle – Great cast
    NCIS – Tony & Ziva!
    True Blood – Still panting…
Game Of Thrones – just… yup!

Currently Jamie Fraser’s doing for me!

Star Trek The Next Generation, Buffy, XFiles and Lost are all awesome! I loved Downton Abbey, Poldark (oh my!), The Crown, Taboo (I really want season 2), and a few more but I’ve already exceeded my 6!

Just 6? That won’t even get me past all the NCIS’s and CSI’s! So I’ll just move those off the table and make them a given. So beyond those:
    MacGyver
    Madam Secretary/President
    ER
    Criminal Minds
    M*A*S*H
    and from my kids’ youth….Arthur

Lorelei, I heartily agree with Alias and Lost. In fact, last week I decided to binge watch Alias again real soon.

I’ll add the following four which have had such an impact on me that regardless of how many times I’ve seen an episode, I have to watch it whenever I might come across it.

Mary Tyler Moore – The show was one of the first (if not THE first) that showed a woman can make it on her own.

I Love Lucy – Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were ahead of their time. The show was scripted, filmed by three cameras, and recorded in front of an audience. Besides, the antics of Lucy will always been funny.

CSI – At one point in my life I wanted to be a criminologist so I really loved all the investigative techniques portrayed in the show. Gil Grissom will always be one of my favorite characters.

Outlander – My list would not be complete without this one. Back in the mid ’90s I came across the book series and have re-read them many times. Since the TV series was first announced I’ve followed the actors and production closely. I was luck enough to win tickets to the mid-season premier of Season 1 and had a great time visiting NYC and seeing the actors on stage for a Q&A after the screening. Exactly a year later I returned to NYC to see Sam Heughan as the Grand Marshall of the New York Tartan Day Parade.

My kids were also obsessed with Barney but only my last one watched Blues Clues. Sad those days are over but I am happy to move on n from this part of life.
As a kid I watched Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie, The Walton’s, Bonanza, and Perry Mason. My Dad controlled the TV back then.
Now I watch 911 Lonestar because why not with Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler, Home Town because they are more down to earth, Big Bang Theory Reruns because I live with a Sheldon, The Masked Singer because it’s fun, Dr. Pimple Popper because I got hooked for some odd reason, and Pit Bulls and Paroles because of the strong women and the thing they do.

    I’m late to the party:

    1. Alias – damn just listening to Michael Vaughn talk with Sydney Bristow or seeing Jack Bristow with his daughter… *sigh* yeah, she kicks ass, but it’s her vulnerability around these men that gets me.
    2. La Femme Nikita – Holy smokes, like Vaughn and Syd Michael and Nikita do me in, every single time!
    3. Roswell – OG, NEVER the reboot. Max and Liz.
    4. Star Trek: TNG – perfection. Give me Jean Luc, the utterance of Imzadi, or Worf and Deanna and I was all in.
5.Black Sails – pirates. S2 was so flippin phenomenal. I didn’t care where they would take me and I cry knowing that Captain Flint got his happy.
    6. Outlander – just because it’s from Diana Gabaldon. TV Claire and Jamie are great, but they do pale to Book Claire and Jamie. Nevertheless, I’m happy to have any shade of J and C on screen and the fact that it’s actually good TV makes my heart sing!
