Gifts and Winners!

January 15, 2022

Sorry about the lack of a post last week. I spent 3 hours at the orthopedic emergency clinic dealing with my right leg. This new doc is the “knee guy” so he ordered a different set of X-rays and I ended up getting a shot, which has helped IMMENSELY. SO much happier, and I got a prescription for pain meds that don’t make my nose bleed. TMI I’m sure.

Anyway, Shirley Long and Tammi Doran were the winners of the copies of SPUN OUT! Thanks everyone for commenting and sharing your lives with me. I mention it every time, but I love reading about what you’ve all been up to.

This week I thought I’d share a few of the gifts I received for Christmas. First up is from Michelle H — such a sweetie and stalwart fan. When I got these I was blown away! And no, I didn’t put them in with my Christmas ornaments: I have a place for them in my office! Aren’t these the cutest EVER?

Also, I was in an ornament exchange group, (I thought the above ornaments I got from Michelle H were from that group, but nope, she’s just sweet and thoughtful!) and with the holidays being so busy, I got the ornament I made sent off late, so it’s no surprise I also received mine late ๐Ÿ™‚ Leanne Y actually waited on purpose so she could pick me up an ornament at the NFR in Vegas! Isn’t that cool? So the first ornament is the one she bought and the second is the one she made.

We received a package with no return address and were thrilled to find this corgi ornament crafted by our friend Kathy R — isn’t it darling?

In our family the past couple of years, we’ve encouraged homemade gifts — not to put pressure on anyone, but because our daughters are so talented! The oldest is a knitter (not a skill she learned from me or her grandmother) and she taught herself how to crochet because she wanted to make the dish cloths like her great-grandma used to crochet for everyone. I was so touched to get this from her — she did such a great job and she made 5 of them! Of course mine is purple ๐Ÿ™‚

The middle daughter had been super quiet during the month of December — and when we opened her gifts to us, we understood why. She crafted these amazing mini gingerbread houses out of clay. Every. Single. Piece. Check out the inside: there even a decorated gingerbread man inside! I’ve put a quarter beside it so you can see the scale of it. She made 6 of them, all different styles ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Youngest daughter is a stitcher, like me, and I was so teary-eyed to get this stitched work that she designed, depicting her and her two sisters at Christmas. She made 3 of these, and she crafted 5 other original, different pieces for her grandparents and her husbands family. This was done on a standard hoop.

Lastly, my BFF Kim, wreath maker extraordinaire, send me this darling wreath as a surprise and it was perfect to hang on the back of my front door ๐Ÿ˜

It was hard to pack everything up and put it away, but alas, I did it last weekend after my knee felt better. My house is back to normal.

Now I just need to get back to a productive schedule.

What’s everyone been up to?

OH my gosh thank you! I am so excited!
I love the ornaments as well. I am “trying” to make a book ornament for 2022., found it on IG where you make little miniatures of the books you read and put them in a clear ornament ball. We will see how it goes.

Oh goodness. Well, we went to Walt Disney World just before Christmas. The day we traveled home my husband started feeling sick. Within a day or so I was sick too. It was a rough couple of weeks and just as we were feeling better his grandpa died. We got clearance to travel from his command and medical so we flew back to Utah the day before the funeral. Monday night the kiddo started throwing up, so flying home early Tuesday was fun. Fortunately she was at the tail end of it by that time. Now it appears that I got that crud because I haven’t felt well all day.

Back to driving niece & nephew to school and picking them up. Grocery shopping for Mom & Dad and the household. Always reading my kindle when waiting for the kids. Glad you got some relief from your leg pains. Seeing my Dad with his cane, knowing we canโ€™t do anything for his tear cause of arthritis and medication, understanding any relief is better then nothing.

I’m so glad you like them. I had Rough Rider ornaments made by the same lady last year then did more this year and had the Dierks ones made for you and Michelle W as she loves Dierks too and she was my ornament exchange person in 2020.
The lady that makes them does great work.

Glad your knee is doing better.

I’m so glad your knee is better. Several years ago, I was having problems with one of my knees. I also got a shot. I was scared to death, but it didn’t even hurt. And the shot did a world of good. A bad knee is a big pain in the butt! Am I right?

I went to Kentucky to spend Christmas with my BFF and her husband. That’s the farthest I’ve ever driven myself. I stopped overnight in Tennessee, going up and coming back. There are too many miles between my home in the Lowcountry of SC and their home. At least for me. It’s my first time away from home since COVID.

We shopped a lot, we ate too much, but it was a great experience. I was treated like a QUEEN. Luckily for me I left before the snow started in KY. It had already started in the mountains between TN and NC. They were beautiful covered in snow, but luckily for me I-40 through the mountains was clear. Snow is a rare occurrence where I live. Next time I visit KY maybe I’ll go in the Spring or Summer.

Hi there! Glad your knee is doing better, cold weather is not fun on the knees, my husband has informed me. This month I have been trying to restore an old Singer sewing machine. We find them in old vacant houses and sadly the old owners no longer want them and their family members don’t sew. I like to fix them up and get them running. Now I am trying to rehome a cabinet machine and a treadle machine. My latest one is from 1892 and it was originally a treadle that was converted to electric at some point. Now this is my challenge for this month. Wish me luck to get it running. If anyone is looking for a machine let me know. These machines were built to last for generations.

Hubs is just getting over his second helping of Covid19. We both had it 2 years ago. Then his mom’s heart was acting up. The ER docs finally admitted her after her 3rd or 4th visit in a month. She then got diagnosed with Covid19 and ended up passing away this last week. Crazy busy time here. I was very pleased to read that you had some relief from your knee problems. Hope you continue to feel better. So many lovely things from family and friends. They all looked fantastic.

I fell on my knee back in 2017 (December) while snow plowing and it has been acting up ever since then. It was so black and blue. My husband said to me at least it wasn’t broken because I was walking on it.

Hope you knee starts feeling better.

I do a lot of crafts Plastic Canvas, Felt Kits, and I also crochet I have made one afghan and am working on my second one.

I also got an afghan that my grandmother was working on, one day my mom gave it to me and thought I would like to finish it. Grandma had everything written down then I lost those. I was able to re-write it, I would like to finish this one.

I have made a lot of dollies as well.

So many things to make and not enough time in a day to do.

I hang my plastic canvas kits up for the different holidays.

    Well that’s all for now.

We are still celebrating Christmas here. One last member of the Family to visit and I’m determined to still have the tree up when they come. Otherwise it’s supervising my grandkids while they’re on remote learning- their parents both have to work. It’s mostly just tech work ( my screen froze, I can’t hear my teacher, there’s no one there) but give me strength dealing with online preschool! I give huge props to the teacher who goes day after day with enthusiasm
